Cops & Crims 05:33
I don't like what you have I don't like what you call it The money trap's got me with my pants down Shoppin' for a wallet So you see--ain't no surprise In the land of many eyes That the masters of the get-down--the poor clowns Can't remember where they bought it Cops and crims, hers and hims All the guys and the gals in their good disguise Cops and crims, hungry grins Those who do and don't know why I don't like what you have I don't like what you call it The money trap's got me with my pants down Shoppin' for a wallet So you see--ain't nothin' new This whole white world's red and blue It was made in China, man And Afghanistan's drowning in the bibles Cops and crims, hers and hims All the guys and the gals in their good disguise Cops and crims, hungry grins Those who do and don't know why I don't like what you have I don't like what you call it The money trap's got me with my pants down Shoppin' for a wallet So you see--ain't no surprise In the land of many eyes That the masters of the get-down--the poor clowns Can't remember where they bought it Cops and crims, hers and hims All the guys and the gals in their good disguise Cops and crims, hungry grins Those who do and don't know why

Muster mass hysteria Fanatics in control The truth turns into heresy And heads begin to roll The author of Utopia Is killed by his own king Goliath knows the story now Don't give a man a sling Just like Christ almighty, Just like the late-great Socrates Go on, up them stairs to the gallows Cuz' you won't get down on your knees In old Amsterdam the idols Were all broken in the wake Of Augustine's great triumph Or Luther's grave mistake The people of old Salem put the witches up on trial The Spanish Inquisition Done up with New England style Just like Christ almighty, Just like the late-great Socrates Go on, up them stairs to the gallows Cuz' you won't get down on your knees The Moors are at the doorstep And they're sick of the abuse It's been nearly a decade Being broke is no excuse Love your fellow man No matter what they say Just watch out for the hangman For standing in their way Just like Christ almighty, Just like the late-great Socrates Go on, up them stairs to the gallows Cuz' you won't get down on your knees

Nature's Law 02:08
Pharaoh sleeps beneath the sand In the heart of a buried desert land In peace, enclosed beneath a riverbed Once a student, then a king Sought glory and the shiny things Alexander lost among the dead But when I awake I cannot shake the past The future holds The first will too be last What fire--what rain What joy--what pain In the setting of our only sun That's sinkin' low But soon you know The birds return by nature's law To sing the spring of northern thaw Summer, fall, and winter come again The birds return by nature's law To sing the spring of northern thaw Summer, fall, and winter come again

Feeling low and feeling high Feeling like it's time to fly Feeling like it's time to die Feeling like it's time to live Over land and over sea Over is our destiny Over is your favored love Oh! the wear-winged above Awesome power awesome time Awesome reason awesome rhyme Awful violence now these days Awful silence when we pray Someone's hungry someone's hurt Someone's lying in the dirt Someone's crying for a word Something that will still be heard Lay me down where I was born Lay me down all bruised and worn Lay me down and love me then Because I gave you all--you were my friend.

Oslo & Paris 03:43
The best of the poor Will go off to the war To fight for the sword of the rich. Fatigues uniforms Prisons and dorms it's only a difference of the stitch I can't control where I'm headed to I can't believe that I'm losing you I can't go back to that life alone I'd rather be here baby, at your throne We labor in time We fall into crime We age with a bitter distaste We gave to the cause Took advantage of flaws Let's not let this all just end in waste. I can't control where my head is at In Oslo, that is where I left my hat I think I lost one there in Paris too When it you and me, and me and you. If I were free, I know just where I'd be I'd be over that wide ocean clear and blue Just so you know I love you so I'm going only if you're going too. I won't bury my head in the sand I won't just give up on the promised land If we make it here upon this Earth Then at least we'll know what love is worth.

about

In the winter of 2011-12, Kivi's four-piece band—The Immigrants—and debut CRYING CHILD producer J. Park moseyed into an anonymous West Bank, Minneapolis studio and recorded all six full-band songs on the EP live, in under three hours. Original takes from drummer Dan Demuth (Communist Daughter) and bassist Al Vorse anchor a range of lyrical songs that swell, fall, and build again. Complemented by the twinkly twang of Sarah Pray's mandolin and her spot-on harmonies, THOMAS KIVI & THE IMMIGRANTS is rhythmic, invigorating roots-rock that plays along the borderlines of Wilco, Nirvana's MTV Unplugged, and the sweeter songs of Tom Waits.
